How to get a cutting plan

Enter your sheet size and your part list. PanelPlan lays the parts out on as few sheets as possible and tells you the waste percentage, the running cut length and the edge banding you will need — before you cut anything. Everything runs in your browser; no data is sent anywhere.

Why saw kerf matters

Every cut removes material equal to the thickness of the blade. On a panel saw this is typically between 3.2 and 4.4 millimetres. A plan that ignores it fits on paper and fails at the machine. PanelPlan subtracts the kerf on every single cut.

Grain direction

On patterned melamine, grain direction is a visible quality problem. Two doors side by side with the grain running different ways is a job that comes back. Set a part to run across the width or along the length and it will never be rotated to save material. Leave it free where the pattern does not matter — a part that can rotate means less waste.

What guillotine cutting means

A panel saw can only cut edge to edge; it cannot take a square out of the middle of a sheet. PanelPlan only produces layouts your machine can actually cut. Some online tools show layouts with lower theoretical waste that no panel saw can execute.

Edge banding length

Mark which edges of each part get banding and the total length is calculated for you. Enter the banding thickness and it is subtracted from the part size, so the assembly still comes out to the dimension you designed.

Why keeping offcuts makes money

The large pieces left over from a job are not scrap. Once the plan is calculated, PanelPlan lists every usable offcut over 150 mm. Put those on the rack and cut from them first on the next job and you buy fewer sheets. On an average kitchen job that can be a whole sheet.

Where does my data go?

Nowhere. The calculation runs in your browser. The dimensions you type are stored only on your own device, so your list is still there when you come back.

Which materials does it work with?

Plywood, MDF, melamine, chipboard, solid panel — any sheet material you cut rectangular parts from. The same arithmetic applies to glass and sheet metal.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes. It was built to be used on a phone in a workshop, and it works without an internet connection.
